Brewing in the Basement was an immersive theatrical event hosted by TourettesHero, taking place over two days at the Barbican in 2017. A series of interdisciplinary and inclusive activities and performances invited audiences to question access to the arts and celebrate the UK’s thriving disability arts scene.
Nikki Hafter and Dave Fuller were invited to collaborate on accessible, interactive installations, a transformational opportunity that reframed their joint practice through a lens of inclusivity. The ethos behind their interactive work had always been to make participants the hero of the story - applied to inclusion in the arts, this became a radical agenda that redefinined how they approached the participation needs of their audience. Nikki went on to study a Masters in Inclusive Arts Practice, and access became a core element of her creative career.
